Head to head
Wolvy

from $41/mo billed yearly

1 TB a month, every feature on every tier

VdoCipher

from $149/yr

1 TB a year, tracker from $399

The same job. Very different bills.

Both encrypt video with studio DRM. The differences that actually decide it are PlayReady coverage, what each tier includes, how storage is counted, and whether you can pay in pounds. Every number here comes from their own pricing page — dated, and linked at the bottom.

The 60-second answer

Five differences that decide it.

If you read nothing else on this page, read these.

DEVICE COVERAGE

Three DRM systems, not two.

Wolvy ships Widevine, PlayReady and FairPlay on every DRM plan. VdoCipher's own blog says their stack is Widevine and FairPlay — PlayReady is not in it. That is the Microsoft path: Windows and Xbox hardware-backed playback.

Widevine FairPlay PlayReady — us only
WHAT YOU GET

Every feature, every tier.

Our cheapest DRM plan has App-Only Mode, the SDK, forensic watermarking and WhatsApp support. On VdoCipher the Piracy Tracker — the thing that traces a leak — starts at the $399/yr Value plan, not the $149 Starter.

THE BILL

$0.041 vs $0.149 per GB.

Annual price divided by the bandwidth that price includes. Our DRM Starter is 3.6× cheaper per gigabyte than their Starter — and their Value tier is worse again at $0.160.

STORAGE MATH

We count what you upload.

Their pricing page footnote: Accounted storage can be 2 to 4 times of uploads, for new files for each device. Storage past your plan is billed at $0.75/GB. We count a gigabyte as a gigabyte.

PAYING FOR IT

Pounds, through Fawry.

Every price on VdoCipher's page is in US dollars. If you sell courses in Egypt you are buying protection in a currency you do not earn, on a card many of your peers do not have. Wolvy bills in EGP through Fawry, Visa and Mastercard.

Every published tier

Their whole price list, against ours.

Not a cherry-picked pair. Every VdoCipher tier they publish, with the same sum applied to each: annual price ÷ the bandwidth that price includes for a year.

PlanPriceBandwidthStorageEffective $/GB
Wolvy — DRM Starter $490/yr 12,000 GB/yr 100 GB $0.041
Wolvy — DRM Pro $1,290/yr 36,000 GB/yr 300 GB $0.036
Wolvy — DRM Business $2,990/yr 120,000 GB/yr 1 TB $0.025
VdoCipher — Lite $49/3 months 200 GB/3 mo 50 GB 3-month term
VdoCipher — Starter $149/year 1 TB/yr 100 GB $0.149
VdoCipher — Value $399/year 2.5 TB/yr 200 GB $0.160
VdoCipher — Express $699/year 5 TB/yr 400 GB $0.140
VdoCipher — Pro $1,599/year 15 TB/yr 1 TB $0.107
VdoCipher — Premium $4,999/year 50 TB/yr 2 TB $0.100

Their bandwidth quota is per year; ours is per month, multiplied by 12 for this table. Both sides use each vendor's own annual-billing price. VdoCipher also charges extra bandwidth at $0.11–$0.07/GB depending on tier, and extra storage at $0.75/GB.

Being straight with you

The two cases where they win.

We checked their whole price list, not just the tier that flatters us. There are exactly two situations where VdoCipher is the better buy — and both of them are about being small, not about being protected.

You stream very little

If a year of streaming fits inside 1 TB, their $149/yr Starter costs less in absolute money than our $490/yr — even though ours is far cheaper per gigabyte. Small catalog, small audience: they win on the invoice.

A bigger published catalogue of tiers

They publish six tiers from $49 to $4,999, so if your usage sits at an awkward size there is probably a shelf plan that fits it exactly. Ours is three plus a custom tier — simpler, but less granular.

Outside those two cases, every line on this page runs the other way: more DRM systems, more included in the plan, a third of the price per gigabyte, and an invoice you can actually pay in pounds.

Pick in one line

So which one?

If you are selling protected video in Egypt or MENA at any real volume, this is not a close call.

Every VdoCipher figure on this page — plan prices, bandwidth, storage, overage rates, the storage footnote and which tier the Piracy Tracker starts on — was read on vdocipher.com/site/pricing on 3 September 2026. The PlayReady point comes from their own blog post on PlayReady.

The effective $/GB column is our arithmetic on their published numbers, not a rate VdoCipher quotes. Vendors change pricing without notice — if anything here has drifted, tell us and we will correct it.
